The double screws turner is the core piece of equipment for achieving "deep-layer turning and comprehensive oxygenation" in aerobic composting and fermentation processes. Powered by counter-rotating twin screws and designed for use with fixed-trough fermentation systems, the machine performs deep-layer mixing, material crushing, oxygenation, and displacement of organic matter within the fermentation trough. It features a significant turning depth, strong oxygen penetration, and uniform fermentation, while ensuring the steady movement of material along the trough.

During aerobic fermentation, the twin-screw turner serves not merely as a mixing tool but as the "operational brain" of the process; through the precise, coordinated movement of its twin screws, it creates an optimal growth environment for aerobic microorganisms. The equipment maintains the compost pile temperature within the ideal fermentation range of 55–70°C—effectively eliminating pathogens and insect eggs—and significantly shortens the fermentation cycle to 15–25 days. The aerobic fermentation process facilitated by the double screws turner represents a core technical stage in organic fertilizer production.

Fermentation temperature management: The aerobic fermentation process typically comprises three phases—a heating-up phase, a high-temperature phase, and a cooling-down phase. By performing deep-layer turning, the twin-screw turner moves oxygen-deprived "cold material" from the bottom to the surface and buries dry, "hot material" from the surface into the interior, thereby ensuring uniform temperatures throughout the pile. The pile temperature can be stably maintained within the 55–70°C range, which is optimal for high-temperature decomposition.

Oxygen supply mechanism: During the material-turning process, the twin-screw turner utilizes counter-rotating shafts to tumble the material vertically and create lateral convection, ensuring extensive contact between the material and the air. Fermentation cycle control: Traditional static pile fermentation typically requires 60–90 days. With the use of a twin-screw windrow turner, the fermentation cycle can be reduced to 15–25 days; some models can even shorten this period to 7–15 days.

Operational Guidelines and Key Control Points

Standardized operation of the double screws turner is crucial for ensuring fermentation quality and equipment longevity:

Pre-start preparation: Operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Remove hard objects—such as stones or metal—from the fermentation trough. Inspect the screw blades for damage. Clear any residual material from the screw shafts and the machine frame. Check the chain tension. Verify that safety components, such as the emergency stop button and limit switches, are functional.

No-load test run: Start the screw turning mechanism and let it idle for 1–2 minutes to verify the correct rotation direction of the screw shafts. Operate the travel mechanism to ensure smooth movement and effective braking.

Loaded operation: Adjust the travel speed (typically 0.5–3 km/h) and screw shaft rotation speed based on material characteristics. If the material has high viscosity or high fiber content, reduce the travel speed and increase the screw shaft rotation speed.

Shutdown procedure: Upon completion of the turning operation, stop the screw turning mechanism and the travel mechanism.
