Half-Wet Material Crusher

The half-wet material crusher serves as a core piece of equipment in organic fertilizer production lines, acting as a vital link between the fermentation and the batching/granulation stages. It integrates seamlessly with other production machinery—such as compost turners, belt conveyors, horizontal mixers, granulators, and rotary screeners. Capable of processing various fermented, semi-wet materials—including livestock manure, crop straw, and spent mushroom substrate—the crusher efficiently reduces large clumps of material into fine particles.

As a key component of the pre-treatment stage, the half-wet material crusher is tasked with pulverizing sticky materials that have a moisture content of 30% to 60%. The resulting particles are uniform and fine, facilitating subsequent fermentation and granulation processes. Thus, the crusher acts as a crucial bridge connecting the two core operations of fermentation and granulation.

Component Composition and Functional Zoning

From a production process perspective, the half-wet material crusher comprises the following functional units:

(I) Feeding unit: Includes an inclined feed hopper and an inlet, through which material is evenly fed into the crushing chamber.

(II) Dual-stage crushing unit: Consists of upper and lower rotor crushing zones. This is the core section where the dual crushing effect—"material-on-material" and "hammer-on-material" impact—is achieved. The crushing chamber is equipped with high-alloy, wear-resistant hammers.

(III) Discharge adjustment unit: Due to the screenless design, material is discharged directly from the outlet. The output particle size can be controlled within the 20–80 mesh range by adjusting the clearance between the hammers and the liner plates.

(IV) Power transmission unit: Includes an energy-efficient asynchronous motor, pulleys, and a flexible belt drive system.

(V) Centralized lubrication unit: Allows for the injection of lubricant during normal operation without the need to shut down the machine.

Production Line Roles and Process Flow

The half-wet material crusher serves as the core crushing component in an organic fertilizer production line. The complete production process flows as follows: raw material pretreatment → aerobic fermentation → semi-wet material crushing → batching and mixing → granulation → drying → cooling → screening → packaging.

During the post-fermentation stage, the semi-wet material crusher performs critical tasks: breaking down large, compacted clumps of fermented material; controlling the particle size of the crushed material to within the 20–80 mesh (or 20–50 mesh) range; and supplying suitable raw material for the subsequent stages of batching, mixing, and granulation. It is a standard piece of equipment in organic fertilizer production lines with an annual capacity of 2,000 tons, integrating seamlessly with upstream and downstream machinery such as compost turners, belt conveyors, mixers, granulators, dryers, coolers, screening machines, and packaging machines.

Description of the Crushing Process and Stages

The crushing process of the half-wet material crusher can be divided into the following stages:

Feed distribution stage: Half-wet material is evenly fed into the crushing chamber via an inclined hopper. Impurities must be removed through manual sorting or screening equipment prior to feeding.

Primary coarse crushing stage: The upper rotor performs initial crushing, tearing and breaking apart the material lumps. Under the impact of high-speed rotating hammers, the material is initially broken down into smaller particles.

Secondary fine crushing stage: The initially crushed material is propelled into the lower rotor's crushing zone, where it undergoes further fine crushing by high-speed hammers. Material particles collide and grind against each other at high speeds within the chamber, achieving a fine pulverization effect through "material-on-material" impact.

Discharge stage: Due to the screenless bottom design, the crushed material is discharged directly from the outlet. The discharge particle size can be controlled between 20 and 80 mesh by adjusting the clearance gap.

Preparation and Requirements for Pre-production Materials

The half-wet material crusher has specific pretreatment requirements for feed materials. Moisture content control: The moisture content must be maintained within the optimal crushing range of 40%–50%; this can be assessed using the "squeeze into a ball, crumble upon impact" test. If the moisture content exceeds 60%, the material must first undergo mechanical dewatering. Impurity removal: Hard objects such as metal and stones must be removed via manual sorting or screening equipment (with a mesh size of 10–15 cm). Breaking up clumps: Large material chunks exceeding 20 cm in diameter must be manually broken down prior to processing.

Operational Guidelines and Key Control Points

Standardized operation of the semi-wet material crusher is crucial for ensuring crushing quality and equipment longevity. Pre-operation preparation: Check that motor connections are secure and grounding is reliable; inspect blades for looseness (tightening bolt torque: 30–40 N·m); and check V-belt tension (deflection under pressure should be 3–5 mm). No-load operation: Run the machine without load for 1–2 minutes after startup to verify correct motor rotation direction. Loaded operation: Follow the principle of "full-load intake and uniform feeding." Crushing efficiency peaks when the feed rate reaches 85% of the rated capacity. Shutdown procedure: After each shift, run the machine empty for 30 seconds to discharge any residual material.
