Horizontal fertilizer blender (ribbon mixer) Material Moisture Requirements

2026-05-27

Horizontal fertilizer blenders(ribbon mixers) are mainly used for mixing powdered and finely crushed materials such as organic fertilizers and compound organic fertilizers. The moisture content of the material directly affects the mixing effect, equipment operating conditions, and finished product quality, requiring strict zoned control.

For conventionally decomposed organic fertilizer raw materials, the suitable moisture content is controlled between 25% and 35%. Within this range, the material is loose and does not stick to the walls, the ribbon mixing is smooth, clumps can be properly broken up, the mixing uniformity meets the standards, the discharge is smooth, and there is no dust pollution caused by excessive dust. This is the optimal state for continuous production.

If the material moisture content is below 20%, the material is too dry and the dust content is high. This not only creates a poor working environment but also accelerates the wear of the ribbon, cylinder wall, and bearings. Fine dust can easily penetrate the transmission components, shortening the service life of the fertilizer production machine. At the same time, lightweight materials are prone to stratification, reducing the mixing effect.

When the moisture content exceeds 40%, the material viscosity increases significantly, easily adhering to the ribbon and the inner wall of the cylinder, causing material accumulation, blockage, and increased equipment operating load. In severe cases, it can lead to motor overload. Long-term accumulation of residual damp material can lead to mold and spoilage, contaminating subsequent batches and affecting product quality.

For the mixing process involving the addition of microbial inoculants and trace elements, a moisture content of 25%–30% is recommended. This ensures thorough mixing of the auxiliary and main materials while preventing the inoculants from becoming damp and ineffective. During production, the moisture content of the material should be tested beforehand. If it exceeds the standard, dry materials can be added for conditioning. After each batch of wet material is completed, promptly clean any material adhering to the drum and regularly inspect the transmission parts to ensure stable equipment operation.
