How to Adjust the Turning Depth of a Double Screws Compost Turning Machine

2026-02-26

The turning depth of a double screws compost turning machine directly determines the oxygenation effect and uniformity of organic fertilizer fermentation. Proper adjustment can prevent over-turning (too shallow, insufficient fermentation) or over-turning (too deep, causing equipment overload). Adjustment is mainly achieved through a hydraulic lifting system combined with mechanical limit switches, which is simple to operate and highly practical.

Before operation, set the target depth based on the depth of the fermentation tank and the height of the material. Generally, a turning depth of 0.8-1.5 meters is suitable. Too deep a depth can cause excessive load on the helical screw and motor overload, while too shallow a depth will prevent the bottom material from being turned, leading to anaerobic fermentation. Control the overall lifting and lowering of the double helix shaft by operating the hydraulic lifting handle or control cabinet buttons on the fertilizer produciton machine, adjusting the lower edge of the helical blades to the appropriate height.

To ensure stable depth, a mechanical limit device must be installed to prevent excessive helix descent from scraping the bottom of the tank and damaging the blades and fermentation tank. Mark the scale on the equipment frame or lifting column to ensure consistent depth for each operation, avoiding inconsistent depths.

During operation, if the pile is higher in the middle and lower on both sides, it indicates the depth is too shallow and should be increased appropriately. If the equipment struggles to move and the current is too high, the depth is too great, and the screw should be slightly raised. The turning route should use a reciprocating, uniform movement, combined with a constant depth, to ensure thorough mixing of the material both vertically and horizontally.

Daily checks of the hydraulic system, lifting cylinders, and limit switches are necessary to ensure there are no leaks, jams, or malfunctions, and to guarantee accurate and reliable depth adjustment. Properly adjusting the turning depth can effectively improve oxygenation efficiency, shorten the fermentation cycle, and increase the uniformity and yield of organic fertilizer decomposition.
