Precautions for Using Horizontal Fertilizer Mixers for Feed Mixing

2026-04-29

Horizontal fertilizer mixers, originally used for mixing organic fertilizers and powdered fertilizers, must be properly adapted and installed according to safety regulations before being used for mixing feed. Failure to do so can easily damage the equipment, contaminate the feed, and negatively impact livestock quality.

First, ensure thorough cleaning and disinfection of the fertilizer production machine. Fertilizer residues contain chemical components, acids, alkalis, and harmful bacteria. Before mixing feed, thoroughly clean the inside of the machine chamber, the blades, and any remaining material, rinsing and drying repeatedly to prevent fertilizer residue from contaminating the feed and causing poisoning and affecting livestock growth.

Second, strictly control the feed specifications. Avoid mixing feed ingredients with stones, wires, or hard objects, as this can bend the mixing blades, damage the main shaft bearings, and easily cause the equipment to jam. The moisture content of the feed should be moderate; excessive moisture should prevent clumping and uneven mixing, and also reduce the load on the equipment.

Furthermore, control the amount of feed added. Avoid overloading the equipment; generally, maintain the feed level at 60% to 70% of its volume to ensure sufficient mixing space, higher mixing uniformity, and protection of the motor and reduce the probability of failure.

During operation, avoid prolonged idling and frequent start-stop cycles. Properly control the mixing time; too short a time will result in uneven mixing, while too long a time can cause feed stratification and nutrient loss.

Additionally, feed is a food source for livestock, so regularly check the equipment seals to prevent oil leaks and contamination of the feed. Regular lubrication and maintenance are essential. Ideally, use a dedicated machine for its intended purpose; avoid mixing fertilizer and feed interchangeably to ensure feed safety and equipment durability from the outset.
