Maintenance of Mixing Blades for Horizontal Fertilizer Blenders

2026-06-29

Mixing blades are critical wear parts in horizontal fertilizer blender; they are subject to constant friction against manure, mineral powder, and aggregates, as well as corrosion from high-moisture materials. Proper maintenance can significantly extend their service life and reduce replacement costs.

Conduct daily pre-shift inspections to check for blade cracking, deformation, detachment of the wear-resistant layer, or loose bolts. If blades show thinning from wear or edge chipping, stop the machine immediately to repair them using wear-resistant welding rods; tighten loose bolts right away to prevent blade misalignment, which could cause scraping and damage to the mixer shell. When processing high-moisture materials like biogas residue or sludge, clean off any adhered material after every shutdown; prolonged adhesion of viscous matter accelerates corrosion and caking, while hardening increases operational load and exacerbates wear.

Periodically reinforce blades against corrosion and wear: apply wear-resistant, anti-corrosive coatings to new or repaired blades, and use build-up welding to thicken wear-prone areas. Prioritize the use of high-manganese steel blades, as they offer superior impact and wear resistance. Screen raw materials before loading to remove stones and metal debris; impacts from hard objects can bend or tear blades, drastically shortening their lifespan.

Control the moisture content of feed materials; mixing extremely sticky, wet manure over long periods doubles the rate of blade corrosion. Pre-mix with dry straw or bran to adjust moisture levels and reduce material adhesion and corrosion. Avoid prolonged idling without a load, as blades rubbing directly against the mixer shell without material cushioning causes wear rates to skyrocket; conversely, avoid overloading, which can twist blades or snap connecting shafts.

When fertilizer produciton machine is shut down for an extended period, thoroughly clean the blades and apply anti-rust oil to prevent corrosion caused by moisture. Conduct a comprehensive monthly inspection of the blade welds, and re-weld or reinforce any cracked seams. Stock spare blades based on operating conditions to enable rapid replacement in the event of severe damage during mass production, thereby minimizing production line downtime. With proper maintenance, the service life of the mixing blades can be more than doubled.
