【FAQ】How to Troubleshoot Excessive Noise in a Double Axis Mixer?
Step 1: Fasteners. Under continuous vibration, motor mounting bolts, bearing housing bolts, and casing connection bolts can loosen. Loose bolts allow for relative movement between components, resulting in high-frequency clanking sounds. Solution: After shutting down the machine, use a torque wrench to check and tighten all visible bolts individually, paying special attention to the mounting bolts on the bearing housings at both ends of the mixing shaft. It is recommended to apply thread-locking adhesive and mark the bolts with a reference line to facilitate quick visual checks for loosening during routine inspections.
Step 2: Clearance between mixing paddles and the casing. double axis mixers are designed with a specific clearance (usually 5–8 mm) between the mixing paddles and the casing. If paddles are severely worn or their installation angle has shifted, they may scrape against the casing during rotation, producing a sharp metallic friction sound. Solution: Open the access hatch and manually rotate the shaft to check the clearance for each paddle; adjust the angle or replace any paddle that interferes with the casing. Simultaneously, inspect the welds at the paddle bases for cracks—cracked welds can cause paddles to wobble during operation, creating a periodic abnormal noise.
Step 3: Bearings and lubrication. If the first two checks reveal no issues, the noise may originate from the bearings. Early-stage bearing damage is characterized by a high-pitched, sharp sound, which shifts to a dull, heavy knocking sound as the damage worsens. Solution: Use a stethoscope or vibration analyzer to monitor the vibration acceleration at the bearing housings. Normal values should be below 5 mm/s; if the reading exceeds 10 mm/s, the bearing must be replaced immediately. At the same time, check whether the grease has deteriorated or is insufficient; since the bearings of the double axis mixer operate at high temperatures, it is recommended to use a complex lithium-based grease with a temperature resistance of 150°C or higher, replenishing it every 500 hours of operation.
